Unrestricted digital asset management

8th April 2015

Does your digital asset management system constrain you in any way?

For example are you limited to a specified number of assets or users, or do you have to pay more if you want to increase either? Is there any restriction on the type of file supported by the DAM? Do you have to pay more for so called ‘enterprise’ features? How about hosting of the system, can it be deployed anywhere? Is there a limit to the size of file that you can upload? Is the metadata schema fully flexible; can any number of fields be used?

On a good digital asset management system there will be no limitations with respect to –

  • Number of digital assets
  • Size of digital assets
  • Type of digital assets
  • Number of metadata fields
  • Number of concurrent users
  • Features that can be made available
  • Storage space supported
  • The hosting location

Other important features of DAM software to watch out for are –

  • A flexible security model and permissions structure, so that you can assign whatever differing levels of access to users or groups of users that you need. You should also be able to provide different users, or groups of users, with access to whatever range of features that you want them to have
  • Freedom to have any branding and style of interface, including an exact match to an existing companion site
  • An audit trail that can be configured to provide as much or as little information as you need
  • Integration with social media
  • Optional subject hierarchy
  • Creating peer-to-peer and parent-child relationships

These are the questions to ask a potential DAM system supplier. You can contact us at sales@ibase.com or call +44(0)1943 603636.
