University College Dublin - ResearchImage management system

Each year since 2006 University College Dublin have run a competition for the best images of research. The iBase digital asset management system enables entries to be uploaded from a web browser, and the judges are able to view and assess the competition images from anywhere in the world.

UCD were looking for an established packaged application which would require minimal development work to meet their image management requirements.

Their requirements and which iBase delivered included -

  • Store images, and associated metadata, as they are submitted.
  • A standard method for storing and describing images (using metadata).
  • Provide users with a searchable system designed to minimise the effort required to search and retrieve research-related images.
  • Provide access to high quality and accessible research-related images at school, institute and university level.
  • Allow logged in users to download high res versions of the images for use in university promotional material. All downloads need to be tracked / logged.
  • Establish a good workflow and tracking system with related quality control to manage image use.
  • Ability to transfer a collection / sub-collection to the Internet or Intranet.
