City of London Libraries and Guildhall Art Gallery
The City of London Libraries and Guildhall Art Gallery is host to COLLAGE, an image database containing over 20,000 works of art from its collections.
Guildhall Library's Print Room is one of the best sources of pictorial material on London history. Its collection includes tens of thousands of prints, drawings, watercolours, maps, photographs, and ephemera.
Guildhall Art Gallery is the home of the City of London's art collection. From its origins in the 17th century it has grown into one of the largest local authority collections, specialising in works of London interest and particularly strong in Victorian material. Located next to the historic Guildhall, the Gallery opened in its beautiful new premises in 1999.
Dumfries and Galloway - Through the Lens
Dumfries and Galloway Council, Cultural Services holds an important and extensive collection of images relating to the region. These have been built up over many years.
Currently there are around 7,000 images in the collection, and it is these that have been digitised for this website. Postcards, glass negatives, transparencies, engravings, lantern slides and photographic prints both individual and from albums are all held, and copies of them form the basis of the general collection. There are many tens of thousands more held in special collections, and these will be added to the site as time allows.
Edinburgh City Libraries
Special exhibitions on the Capital Collections site include 'The Old and New Towns of Edinburgh World Heritage', 'Edinburgh Landmarks', 'Panoramas of Edinburgh', and 'Edinburgh Castle'.

Glasgow City Libraries - Virtual Mitchell
Researching your family history? Fancy a trip down memory lane? This site will bring Glasgow's past to life for you.
The photographs feature Glasgow's buildings and streets as well as people going about their daily lives. They will be of great interest to local historians, people researching their family history and anyone who would like a glimpse of Glasgow in days gone by. Most of the photographs are from Archives and Special Collections housed in the Mitchell Library. There are also images from Glasgow Museums and some have been kindly lent by private owners.
You can search by area, street, subject or browse through all the photographs.
Glasgow City Libraries - Sir Thomas Lipton
Sir Thomas Lipton was one of Glasgow's most famous and successful sons. From humble origins he became a world famous tea merchant and yachtsman. However, he never forgot his native city and, on his death in 1931, he bequeathed to Glasgow his extensive personal collection of newspaper cuttings, photographs and memorabilia, which are now housed in the Mitchell Library.
Over 100 volumes of press cuttings and photographs, from 1877 until his death, cover his business and social life but particularly concentrate on his five challenges for the America's Cup. Part of this collection is available for you to search or browse on this website. You can also read his remarkable life story.

Manchester Metropolitan University
The MMU Library is rich in Special Collections, especially in the art and design area. The Library's main printed book special collection is one devoted to Book Design, which covers some 12,000 British private press and commercial publications including extensive holdings of twentieth century Artists' Books.
The related archives contain the papers of artists such as John Farleigh, Barnett Freedman and Paul Hogarth. A rich collection of Victorian ephemera includes the Sir Harry Page and Laura Seddon collections of Victorian albums and greeting cards. The Gallery collection originated in a body of work collected by the Manchester Art School from the 1890's and includes ceramics, glass, metalwork, wood, jewellery, ethnography, prints, drawings and works on canvas.
Royal Armouries Online Catalogues
The Royal Armouris Online catalogue consists of 70,000 examples of arms, armour and artillery dating from ancient times to the present day. It includes the royal armours of the Tudor and Stuart kings; arms and armour of the English Civil War from Littlecote House; British and foreign military weapons from the Board of Ordnance and Pattern Room collections; hunting and sporting weapons, and oriental arms and armour.
The Library acquires material relating to the history, development and use of arms, armour and artillery, and to the Tower of London. It has special collections of military manuals, drill books, and fencing manuals. The collection amounts to some 30,000 books and pamphlets, 10,000 journals and magazines, and 6,000 auction sales catalogues.
RIBA - Royal Institute of British Architects
RIBApix is a growing database dedicated to providing you with exceptional and unique images from the collections of the British Architectural Library at the Royal Institute of British Architects, the world's most extensive visual archive devoted to architecture.
RIBApix covers world architecture of all periods together with related subjects such as interior design, landscape, topography, planning, construction and the decorative arts. Many of the images are also of social documentary importance.
Shetland Museum - Photographic Archive
The Shetland Museum holds a large collection of photographs dating from the early 1870's onwards, covering all areas of the islands and making a comprehensive and priceless record of Shetland life.
This collection was founded in 1966 and has grown steadily from 4,000 images to over 80,000 and is the work of amateur and professional photographers. The Web Site currently has approximately 64,000 of the images on line. More will be added in due course.

Here you will find, with both Welsh and English Language versions, over 20,000 digital images taken from the local history collections. There are images of people at work and at play; of buildings; places and events helping to illustrate all aspects of life in the County Borough from around 1880 to the present day. The website allows you to browse by Area, Valley or Town and to seek out specific subjects or themes.
The website is under continuous development and new images are regularly added as the digitisation programme moves ahead and new photographs are collected by the library service.
